Un bambino annegato in una pozza, per tutti un orribile incidente, ma non per l'ispettore Sejer. Per lui qualcosa non torna, per via di quella madre troppo giovane e troppo brillante, e per via del fatto che quel bambino è Down. Eppure non riesce e trovare nulla che riesca ad avvalorare la sua intuizione, nemmeno quando l'autopsia mostra che il bambino non è morto nella pozza e non ci riuscirà fino alla fine, in un'ultima pagina che forse sarebbe stato meglio non venisse scritta e che è l'unica caduta di stile in un giallo altrimenti perfetto.

A child drowned in a pool, for everyone a horrible accident, but not for the inspector Sejer. For him something don't happens to be, because of that mother too young and too bright, and because the child has Down syndrome. And yet he can't find anything that could support his intuition, even when the autopsy shows that the baby did not die in the puddle, and will not find anything it until the end, in a last page that might have been better was not written, and that is the only fall of style in a thriller otherwise perfect.
