Finders Keepers

Finders Keepers Stephen King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pubblicato il 2 giugno 2015 da Scribner
Edizione italiana: Chi perde paga - Sperling & Kupfer

Usually the second book a falls trilogy a bit, and should be read because it clarifies what happened in the first volume, where the cards are placed on the table, and prepares what will happen in the last, where the fireworks artifice burst. This is not the case of Finder Keepers, which, while containing clear references to Mr. Mercedes and paving the way to the concluding volume, can be read like a novel of its own. On the other hand King is accustomed to handling without voltage drops seriality far more substantial than a trilogy.
Someone has compared Finders Keepers with Misery, I have to say that a comparison was never more wrong.
The only thing that the two novels have in common is the obsession of a reader for a fictional character, but this obsession in Misery is eviscerated by a complex relationship between reader and author and in this case the author is killed in the first pages leaving to the obsession the space to grow in purity and giving King the space to do what he does best: talk about writing, entering into the details of the creative process, and reading, describing in great detail the actual recognitions that is the drug that moves passionate readers.
Not to mention that, unlike others, I love this "new" Stephen King, dedicated to horror in a more subtle way than in his first books, and his penetrate ever more deeply into everyday humanity that hides inside pockets of pure fear .
But as I said, the novel is still a second volume, and in the course of pages King not forget to sharpen the will be two main characters of the last volume, and I have the impression that the ending will be really a bang.

The Girl from Krakow

The Girl from Krakow Alex Rosenberg
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rita is a Jewish girl in Poland who faces the Nazi and the Soviet invasion, the ghetto and the many dangers that her Jewish state puts in front of her. Her Aryan appearance, her courage, and a good dose of pragmatism that helps her see clearly in situations where others lose their heads, will help to overcome the war, the loss of hers loved ones, the destruction of the world that she knows and to build a new life, without ever losing her sensitivity even without being a victim.
Beautiful book, very interesting and that has a female protagonist who acts rather than cry on as often happens in literature.

A Naturalist Goes Fishing: Casting in Fragile Waters from the Gulf of Mexico to New Zealand's South Island

A Naturalist Goes Fishing: Casting in Fragile Waters from the Gulf of Mexico to New Zealand's South Island James McClintock
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Anchored as they are to the reality, and used to watch it closely without prejudices, naturalists are usually good writers. McClintock is no exception and offers to us, who are fisherman when the fish is in the pot, a fascinating chronicle of his activities as game fisherman, written in a style that has nothing to envy to the wonderful Three Men in a Boat. Obviously fishing activity provides the opportunity for the description of the characteristics of the fish species and their habitat, the problems arising from the change in the ecosystem and of the future prospects of an activity so important for the environment and human feeding .

Earth's Imagined Corners

Earth's Imagined CornersTamara Linse
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sara is the dutiful daughter of a strict father until the day she discovers that behind the severity hide violence and selfishness. That same day, however, Sara discovers love, and with the impetuosity of her age she runs away from his abusive father to follow the young stranger who has fascinated her. Her moral rectitude still prevents her to make big nonsense and keep upright the boat of her little family, founded on bases so fragile, despite the handsome James is anything but perfect.
A novel with vivid characters, among which Sara, the protagonist, and Auntie, of which I was sorry not to know the fate, with only some slowness in some places.
