Due giovani rinvenuti cadaveri nella brughiera, e troppi, davvero troppi possibili assassini, anche se il movente parrebbe scontato, visto che uno dei defunti è una ragazza di facilissimi costumi. Ovviamente niente è come sembra, qualche altro cadavere salterà fuori strada facendo e Barbara Havers risorgerà, come la fenice, dalle sue ceneri professionali, alla faccia di un Ispettore Lynley particolarmente antipatico.
Ma che c'entrano i serpenti??? (Il titolo originale è "In pursuit of the proper sinner")


Two young men found dead on the moor, and too many, too many possible killers, although the motive seems assured given that one of the dead was a girl of very easy costumes. Of course, nothing is as it seems, some other body will turn up along the way and Barbara Havers rise, phoenix-like, from hers professional ashes , so much of a particularly obnoxious Inspector Lynley.
But what mean the snakes ??? (The original title is 'In pursuit of the proper sinner')

Uno scrittore tormentato e semi-sconosciuto e una serie di racconti bellissimi e tragici, per i quali la sola idea di lieto fine è da considerarsi offensiva. Personaggi dai contorni netti, lucidissimi nel loro male di vivere, soprattutto i bambini, che sono piccoli solo nell'età, ma non nella comprensione dell'orrore in cui si trovano a vivere.

Deve essere la maledizione del classico celebrato, ma questo romanzo non mi è piaciuto per niente. Senza contare che non so se non l'ho capito o se l'ho capito fin troppo bene. Non è nulla di più del racconto superficiale e vuoto di una giornata superficiale e vuota di un gruppo di persone superficiali e vuote. Persino i personaggi che dovrebbero essere portatori di un conflitto, di una umanità più vissuta, come Peter Walsh, non riescono a emergere dalla vacuità. L'unico personaggio che resta impresso, con tutto il suo dolore di reduce di guerra incompreso nei suoi traumi, è Septimus, la cui vicenda serve solo a rendere ancora più irreali gli altri personaggi. Clarissa Dalloway non è più protagonista di Anna Karenina nell'omonimo romanzo, anche lei semplice comparsa che serve da pretesto per legare le vicende degli altri personaggi, e riesce a mancare l'unico momento in cui potrebbe diventare davvero protagonista liquidando in due parole la riflessione sulla morte di Septimus. Nessun appunto sul linguaggio, mi sembra che la traduzione sia del tipo inutilmente aulico in auge per gli scritti che si ritengono irrinunciabili e che ha l'unica funzione di tenere lontano il lettore.


It must be the curse of the celebrated classic, but I did not like at all this novel. Not to mention that I do not know if I have not understood it or if I understood it all too well. It is nothing more than the superficial and empty story  of a superficial and empty day for a group of superficial and empty people. Even the characters that should be the bearers of a conflict, of a more experienced humanity, as Peter Walsh, fail to emerge from the emptiness. The only character that remains impressed, with all his pain of misunderstood in his trauma war's veteran , is Septimus, whose story only serves to make it even more unreal the other characters. Clarissa Dalloway is the protagonist in the novel no longer than Anna Karenina, also a simple extra that serves as a pretext to tie the stories of the other characters, and manages to miss the only time she could really become the protagonist liquidating in two words  reflection about Septimus's death. No note on language, it seems to me that the translation is of the useless dignified type in vogue for the writings that are considered essential and which has the sole function of keeping away the reader.

Chi può essere l'unico possibile precursore del metodo d'indagine deduttivo, prima ancora di colui che lo ha portato alla fama, vale a dire Sherlok Holmes? Immanuel Kant, il grande filosofo che spinse la sua mente oltre ogni limite della ragione.
E sarà Hanno Stiffenius, procuratore prussiano, uomo che ha visto il male nonché riluttante allievo di Kant, a seguire passo passo la strada che il suo maestro ha preparato per lui, fino a risolvere gli orrendi misteri di Koninsberg, e dell'animo umano.
Primo libro di una serie dedicata al procuratore, è scorrevole anche se ancora un po' immaturo.
