Storia tipicamente americana, tra ragazzi delle superiori, college e università, scritta in forma epistolare (ma a senso unico), da un ragazzino strano e intelligente.
Il tono è volutamente adolescenziale, troppo volutamente, perché si sente lo scrittore adulto che tenta di reinventare il proprio modo di scrivere all'età del protagonista.
Ovviamente c'è un mentore che nutre il protagonista di classici della letteratura di formazione americana, quella che va tanto anche da noi e che non serve a nulla ai nostri adolescenti che sono esposti a un modo di vivere totalmente diverso.
Ovviamente c'è una brutta storia dietro.
Ovviamente è piuttosto celebrato, ma non eccelso.


Typically American story, through boys of high school, college and universitie, written in epistolary form (but one-way), by a strange and intelligent boy.
The tone is deliberately of adolescence, too deliberately, because one feels the adult writer who tries to reinvent his way of writing at the age of the protagonist.
Obviously there is a mentor who feeds the protagonist with classics of American educational literature, the same that goes so well at us, and that is useless to our adolescents who are exposed to a lifestyle totally different.
Obviously behind there's a bad story.
Obviously it is quite celebrated, but not great.
