Da un po' di tempo Deaver ha perso il suo smalto, e le sue storie vanno avanti più per via del mestiere che di una reale ispirazione. Una ventata di aria fresca era penetrata nel suo mondo con la creazione della detective esperta di cinesica Katherine Dance, ma a furia di dai anche questo personaggio si è logorato.
La storia, che pure ha molti spunti interessanti e affronta un argomento abbastanza serio come lo stalking, va avanti praticamente per stereotipi, e il lettore, a ogni nuovo colpevole individuato, si chiede come abbiano fatto i detective a trascurare indizi davvero lampanti.
Tre stelline comunque, perché il libro si legge senza troppi sbadigli.

For some time Deaver has lost its luster, and his stories run more because of the job either than a real inspiration. A breath of fresh air had penetrated into his world with the creation of the detective expert of Kinesics Katherine Dance, but  by persisting also this character has worn.
The story, which also has many interesting ideas and faces a serious enough argument as stalking, goes on pretty much for stereotypes, and the reader, to each new culprit identified, wonders how the detectives did to overlook clues really obvious.
Three stars, however, because the book is read without too many yawns.
