C'è stato un periodo, che spero sia definitivamente tramontato, in cui andava di moda scrivere libri tra passato e presente. Voglio dire, non libri in cui un mistero del passato influenza il presente, ma che sono scritti tutti nel presente, e nemmeno sono libri storici, ma proprio libri che hanno capitoli nel presente, capitoli nel passato, storie che si intrecciano e personaggi che si influenzano anche se apparentemente non hanno nulla a che vedere l'uno con l'altro.
Detta così sembrerebbe una figata, se non che nella gran parte dei casi ne sono usciti fuori pasticci innominabili.
La biblioteca dell'alchimista è esattamente uno di questi libri, che svariona via tra arabi in visita ai re danesi, il KGB e un giornalista americano che non si capisce bene che cosa vuole dalla vita.

There was a time, which I hope is finally gone, when it was fashionable to write books throug past and present. I mean, not books in which a mystery of the past influences the present, but that are all written in the present, nor are they historical books, but just books that have chapters in the present and chapters in the past, stories that intertwine and characters that influence each the other even if apparently they have nothing to do with each other.
That way it would seem pretty cool, except that in most cases they have gone out unmentionable messes. The Alchemist's library is exactly one of these books, which seesaws between Arabs visiting the Danish king, the KGB and an American journalist who's not clear what he wants from life.
Deadly.
