Le intricate vicende di un gruppo di tossici, chi per debolezza, chi per scelta, chi per noia di vivere, le interazioni tra di loro e con la gente cosiddetta normale, e con il grande spauracchio, l'HIV. Una girandola di violenze verbali, di machismo gratuito, di reati piccoli e grandi, senza una vera e propria trama se non la ricorrenza dei personaggi, sullo sfondo di una Scozia senza speranza inserita in una Gran Bretagna sull'orlo del disfacimento.
Interessante come esperimento letterario, ma Kureishi e Celine sono tutta un'altra cosa.


The intricate story of a group of toxic, some by weakness, some by choice, some for boredom of life, their interactions with one another and with the so-called normal people, and with the great bogeyman, HIV. A swirl of verbal violence, gratuitous machismo, small and large crimes, without a real plot if not the occurrence of the characters, on the background of a hopeless Scotland  inserted in a Britain on the brink of disintegration.
Interesting as a literary experiment, but Kureishi and Celine are another matter entirely.
