Another Yellowthread Street story, imaginary Hong Bay district in Hong Kong. This time the policemen and the detective of the local police station struggles with letter bombs sent to some of the neighborhood merchants. Despite the bomber alerts every time the police of his intentions, the chief detective Feiffer's hands are tied, because his superiors believe that this is a terrorist attack, of which the population must mot be made aware.
But Feiffer is convinced of the contrary, and stubbornly continue his investigation, until he finds the culprit and the sordid motivation.
In all this Feiffer's deputy, the anglocinese O'Yee, busts an identity crisis in search of his true roots, and place the searching for a stuffed toucan before the investigation, toucan which ends up jumping out in the perhaps less the least likely place.
Perhaps the less humorous of the series, it is maybe the most interesting from the point of view of the crimi part of the plot. The characters, which in the first two volumes were rather dashed, are in this book much more detailed and enjoyable.

The Hatchet Man

The Hatchet Man William Marshall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Prima edizione 1976

Second volume of the 'Yellowthread Street' serie, it sees the policemen of the most infamous police station in Hong Kong dealing with a mysterious murderer who kills completely random, in the darkness of a movie theater. There are no witnesses, no clues, until, almost by accident, the circle begins to narrow and comes to light the portrait of a man who goes so unnoticed that slips away even to himself, so unnoticed to be himself a victim.
The beginning of the novel is somewhat a little confused, a little off, then engages and returns to the usual level of pyrotechnic linguistic absurdity.

Yellowthread Street

Yellowthread Street William Marshall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Prima edizione 1975

An ordinary night in Yellowthread Street, in the imaginary Hong Bay district, Hong Kong, between policemen of Chinese and European origin, killers and unlicensed street food vendors (and come to think that the second offense is more serious than the first ), the Chinese mafia lords who respect verbatim the speed limits, tourists who get drunk and end up in jail along with American sailors dedicated to armed robbery and a Mongolian, a mountain of a man whose brain, however little, is entirely devoted to crime, and that will only be stopped by mistake.
A fun book, full of acrobatic wordplay, unfortunately difficult to translate into Italian, a real hoot.
