Qualcuno ha definito questo libro della Rowling un Peyton Place inglese, e in effetti i punti di contatto col divertentissimo lavoro della Metallious sono parecchi, ma la Gran Bretagna non è gli States, e quindi alla fin fine le differenze sono molte di più.
La piccola comunità in cui si svolgono gli eventi è densa di personaggi uno più gradevole dell'altro, persino quelli considerati progressisti hanno un'anima nera e scheletri nell'armadio, a partire dal consigliere defunto, quello che determina la vacanza, che per la sua ansia di riscatto ha in realtà reso infelice la moglie.
A fare da sfondo alla vicenda il classismo inglese, nel quale ognuno si regge su qualcun altro che gli è inferiore, in una lotta per la sopravvivenza che alla fine produrrà due vittime innocenti, che alla fine, in quanto ormai cadaveri, riceveranno onori e simpatia di cui non hanno mai goduto in vita.
Un romanzo complesso, migliore nella seconda parte come nella prima, che rivela la scrittrice di razza, che però, dopo il maghetto, ha bisogno di un po' di pratica.


Someone has called this Rowling's book an English Peyton Place, and in fact the ponits of contact with the amusinf Metallious' job are several, but Britain is not the States, and then in the end the differences are many more.
The small community in which the events take place is full of characters one more pleasing than the other, even those considered progressive have a black soul and skeletons in the closet, starting from the deceased councilor, the one that determines the vacancy, which for the his redemption anxiety has actually made unfortunate his wife.
The backdrop to the story is the English classism, in which everyone sustains oneself on someone else, that is lower, in a fight for survival that eventually will produce two innocent victims, that in the end, because now dead, will receive honors and sympathy they never enjoyed in life.
A complex novel, better in the second part as in the first, which reveals the purebreed writer, but after the boy wizard, shee needs a little practice.
