Ma anche questi ragazzi americani dipendono dalla famiglia, danno ad essa merito e colpe di qualsiasi loro atto, nella confusione del passaggio tra adolescenza ed età adulta.
Alla fine Leonard, devastato dalla psicosi maniaco-depressiva, si rivelerà l'unico personaggio veramente lucido.

But even these American boys are dependent on family, give to it merit and guilt of any of their acts, in the confusion of the transition between adolescence and adulthood.
Eventually Leonard, ravaged by manic-depressive psychosis, will prove to be the only character really clear headed.
