Sara è la figlia obbediente di un padre severo fino al giorno in cui scopre che dietro la severità si nascondono la violenza e l'egoismo. Quello stesso giorno però Sara scopre l'amore, e con l'impetuosità della sua età fugge dal padre violento per seguire il giovane sconosciuto che l'ha affascinata. La sua dirittura morale le impedisce comunque di fare grosse sciocchezze e di mantenere dritta la barca della sua famigliola, nata su basi tanto fragili, nonostante il bel James sia tutto tranne che perfetto.
Un romanzo con personaggi vividi, tra cui spiccano Sara, la protagonista, e Auntie, della quale mi è dispiaciuto non conoscere il destino, con solo qualche lungaggine in alcuni punti.

Sara is the dutiful daughter of a strict father until the day she discovers that behind the severity hide violence and selfishness. That same day, however, Sara discovers love, and with the impetuosity of her age she runs away from his abusive father to follow the young stranger who has fascinated her. Her moral rectitude still prevents her to make big nonsense and keep upright the boat of her little family, founded on bases so fragile, despite the handsome James is anything but perfect.
A novel with vivid characters, among which Sara, the protagonist, and Auntie, of which I was sorry not to know the fate, with only some slowness in some places.
